Running a family business comes with its own set of considerations. Beyond growing the business today, leaders also have to think about continuity, succession and what they want to build for the next generation.
To them, it means that talent decisions made today can impact multiple generations. Making it especially essential for family businesses to have strong talent management processes embedded in their organisation’s culture.
These were among the topics explored by Catherine Yeow, Managing Director of HRnetOne Singapore and Thailand, during her talk for the Women’s Entrepreneur Circle (WEC), where she shared insights drawn from over 25 years of experience with a group of female business leaders in Singapore.

The talk was held as part of WEC’s We Learn series, which combines enterprise visits with interactive knowledge sharing. The visit gave participants the opportunity to gain a closer look at how a business operates while exchanging perspectives on the talent and leadership challenges they encounter in their own organisations.

The sharing session covered four key areas: attracting the right people, retaining strong talent, understanding how AI is reshaping roles, and identifying the right second-in-command. Each topic addressed a practical consideration for business leaders, from building the right team and keeping key people engaged to preparing for changing roles. It also covered the importance of ensuring strong leadership continuity within the organisation.

At HRnetOne, we believe that effective talent management goes beyond hiring the right people. It is about understanding the unique needs of each organisation and co-creating solutions that help businesses build, develop and retain the people who drive their success. For family businesses in particular, taking a long-term approach to talent can help strengthen the organisation today while preparing it for the generations ahead.
We are grateful to the Women’s Entrepreneur Circle (WEC) for the opportunity to be part of this meaningful exchange. Conversations like these allow us to learn from business leaders, share perspectives, and explore how thoughtful talent strategies can support organisations as they grow and evolve.
